Starting at EYC

When you enrole your child at Early Years Childcare, you will be given a Welcome Pack (details below). This contains important information about your child’s care. You will also be shown a copy of the nursery’s Policies and Procedures Manual.

The key workers in your child’s room will liaise with you to organise settling-in sessions. The number and length of these visits is worked out on an individual basis. During these sessions, you will have the opportunity to get to know the staff and get more of a feel for the nursery.

There will be a number of forms to complete including essential contact details, information about your child’s health and dietary needs.

You can of course ask as many questions as you like and the staff will be more than happy to help and advise you. At Early Years Childcare we offer a complete service, so normally all we ask that you bring in is a spare set of clothes (possibly with seasonal variations such as sun hat or wellies) - and your child!

The Welcome Pack for parents/carers includes:

Welcome Letter (general information)
Fee Sheet
Baby Information Sheet (if applicable)
Outings Consent Form
Photography Consent Form
Administration of Creams Form
Guidance on Infection Control
Childcare Agreement
Learning Through Play booklet
Nursery menus (six weeks)
Menu guidelines for parents
Baby menus (if applicable)

A Carefully Balanced Routine

It’s amazing just how many activities take place at our nurseries during the week, this includes a good mix of rest, structure and creative freedom.

Through a carefully planned routine we can ensure your child reaps all the benefits of their time with us, whether they are attending occasional sessions or full time. Details of our activity programmes will be shown to you at the nursery.

Mealtimes, as well as rest and play are an important part of the day and all food is freshly prepared on the premises by highly experienced chefs. We encourage children to develop healthy eating habits and good manners.

We are able to cater for most medical dietary requirements and all menus have a vegetarian or vegan alternative. A copy of our menu will be given to you when your child starts nursery.

Typical morning routine
Around 8am, a wide range of stimulating play equipment is set out in each room.

Breakfast is offered between 8am – 8.45 then staff and children start the day with a song or discussion about the current room theme such as ‘the seasons’, ‘under the sea’ or ‘clothes’.

Children can then enjoy free play in the garden or take some of their ‘indoor’ activities outside such a painting or sand play. Buggies enable babies to get fresh air either in the nursery gardens or on trips to nearby parks.

After a healthy mid morning snack, there are outdoor and indoor theme based activities such as drama, cooking or music and movement.

Preparations are then made for lunch. In family and toddler rooms, some children may help set the table while others listen to stories or sing songs.

All children wash their hands and then lunch is served in small groups. Staff sit with the children to assist where necessary and encourage social skills. After lunch the children brush their teeth.

Morning sessions run from 8am to 1pm. Breakfast, mid-morning snack and lunch are provided.

Typical afternoon routine
After lunch there is a relaxing time when some children will sleep while others can play quietly

The afternoons feature a mixture of free play and planned group activities such as water play and messy play. Whatever the weather, good use is made of the gardens as long as the children are suitably clothed.

Around 3.30pm a two course high tea is served and then play continues. This tends to be a good time for imaginative sessions such as ‘dressing up’ or ‘home corner’.

Towards the end of the day quiet activities and stories help the children relax and unwind.

Whey you come to collect your child our staff will talk to you about the day and will also give you a written sheet summarising their activities, meal and care routines.

Afternoon sessions run from 1pm to 6pm. High tea and a healthy late afternoon snack are provided as well as all milk or drinks.
