Our Horsham nursery was our second setting to host local author Jill Atkins on 5th February, and she entertained the children with some of her well known childrens stories.
Jill, who has written a number of children’s story and educational books, sat with children in the nursery’s library area telling stories and singing songs. They used their imaginations during some role play and puppetry and the children got involved in the story telling, using finger puppets to act out one of Jill’s books ‘Cara’s Breakfast’, which see’s a little girl go on a long task to have her Dad make her an egg for breakfast, with the help of her farmyard animal friends!

The visit was in part inspired by our latest business objective, and as a company we are keen to review and enhance the learning and development of children’s literacy, language and communication skills. All of our settings will be exploring new and exciting ways of approaching literacy, giving the children the best possible start for when they reach Primary school.
Assistant Nursery Manager Kayla Nicholls said of the visit, “It was fantastic; the children really enjoyed the stories and the finger puppetry. It’s something for them to get excited about, whilst focusing on what we see as important areas of learning.”
